Registry | Our Story | Video
We had been told by doctors for many years that it would be very difficult for us to ever have children. After eight years of marriage, we had begun to suspect it was probably just impossible for us. This was especially tough last year as we also lost Kelli’s mom Phyllis Feener to early onset dementia in May. Losing a parent while also grieving the seeming certainty that you may never be a parent yourself made for a difficult 2018.
But in October of last year, we got an unexpected surprise. For the first time in our marriage, Kelli felt like she was pregnant! She researched symptoms for a week, trying to convince herself she was just going crazy. The symptoms persisted, and the time finally came to get a pregnancy test. It was at that point that she finally let me know of her suspicion. To be honest, I didn’t believe it at all, even after the first test (and then the second one) both read “Positive.” I didn’t believe it until we saw a doctor the next week and she told us “we have a miracle!”
We found out just before Christmas that our beautiful baby is a boy. We decided on the name “Isaac” because in the Bible, when God told Abraham and Sarah that they were going to have a baby, they laughed because they didn’t think it was possible. They named him “Isaac” because it means “He Laughs.” Our Isaac has already brought us so much laughter, so the name just fit perfectly.
His middle name is “Oliver” which means “Olive Tree” or “Olive Branch.” In the Bible, God sent to Noah and his family a dove carrying an olive branch to let them know that the flood was over. The branch was a promise of peace! After such a difficult year, we see our Isaac Oliver as a gift! We love his name, and we are so excited to meet our baby boy.
We have gotten so many kind messages from friends since we announced the pregnancy, and it is such a blessing to know that Isaac is already loved by so many people. If you took the time to read this, thank you for being a part of our (growing) family’s story!
